This black and white marble chess set embodies elegance and refinement. Designed for chess enthusiasts and collectors alike, it stands out for the nobility of its materials and the precision of its workmanship. The chess board, measuring 40 x 40 cm, is made of marble, where the subtle contrast between deep black and bright white brings a sophisticated touch.
The chess pieces offer a pleasant grip and perfect stability on the board. The king, standing 9 cm tall, rises with real presence, every detail carefully worked to reveal the natural beauty of the marble and ensure perfect harmony between aesthetics and function.
This set is far more than a simple game: it becomes a true decorative piece, capable of enhancing any interior with its majestic allure. It finds its place easily in a study, a living room or a library, adding a touch of prestige to any living space. Its storage box, both elegant and practical, protects each piece and makes it easy to carry the complete set (pieces + board) without risk of damage.
Ideal as a prestigious gift, this marble chess set is a safe choice for enthusiasts and lovers of fine pieces. Its timeless design and exceptional quality make it an essential choice for those seeking a chess set that combines luxury and tradition.
A beautiful chess set rests on a simple balance: pieces well proportioned to the size of the squares. To choose a harmonious board, the most reliable guide is the diameter of the king's base.
Key guideline: ideally, the king's base takes up about 75% of the square.
| King height | King base diameter | Square size |
|---|---|---|
| 7,3 to 7,6 cm | 3,8 cm | 4,7 to 5,1 cm |
| 9,5 to 9,8 cm | 4,4 cm | 5,7 to 6 cm |
| 10,1 cm | 4,1 to 4,7 cm | 6 cm |
| 11,2 cm | 5 cm | 6,3 cm |
| 12,7 cm and above | 4,4 cm | 6,3 to 7 cm |
| King base diameter | Square size |
|---|---|
| 2 to 2,4 cm | 2,8 to 3,5 cm |
| 2,5 to 2,9 cm | 3,5 to 4 cm |
| 3 to 3,4 cm | 4,3 to 5 cm |
| 3,5 to 3,9 cm | 4,8 to 6,2 cm |
| 4 to 4,5 cm | 6 to 8 cm |
A board that is too small can hamper moves and make the set look cluttered. Conversely, a board that is too large can break the harmony of the whole. The right size brings both playing comfort and elegance.

I'm not a big fan of buying this kind of product online, I like to see it before buying. But honestly nowadays it's become almost impossible to find a nice traditional chess set in shops. So I ordered a wooden model online and I'm really pleased with my purchase. The set is very pretty, the pieces are beautiful and it looks great in the living room. We play regularly with my husband and the rest of the time it's almost like decoration. The only small complaint I could make is that there isn't a huge choice of storage boxes when you have pieces that aren't Staunton. Otherwise nothing to say, very satisfied.
Product matches the photo, no nasty surprises, well protected and sent on time. Thank you.
Merci.
I ordered a complete chess set and unfortunately the black king arrived broken, despite the parcel being very well packaged. I sent an email to customer service with a photo of the broken piece. They replied quickly and sent me a new king free of charge. The new piece arrived a few days later, very well protected and this time no issues at all. It can happen that a piece breaks during transport, even when well packaged. What matters most is the seller's reaction when there's a problem. And honestly, nothing to fault, it was simple and quick. Very satisfied with the after-sales service from Le Palais des Échecs.
Lots (too many... ? ^-'^) of models, I had a hard time making my choice but by contacting them by email I got several personalised suggestions that really helped a lot. So overall a positive review of the service from Le Palais des Echecs. One small downside, a payment in instalments option would be welcome. Kind regards.
✓ Avis VérifiésBeaucoup (trop... ? Bien cordialement.

I ordered a very large folding chess set on the gladiator theme in mid-August, the figures are well made and what's handy is that you can store them inside the board which folds up.
