Each set includes two queens per colour. The weighted versions are heavier: 920 g compared with 680 g for the Timeless set. DGT recommends matching by board timber: Timeless with walnut, Royal with palisander (rosewood), Ebony or Czech Club with wenge. The weighted plastic set is the most affordable, and DGT presents it as the economical alternative for the Smart Board. The official FIDE set is designed by Daniel Weil. The boards can be found under DGT electronic boards; the complete sets combine board and pieces for 10% less.
Frequently asked questions
Do these pieces work with all DGT chess boards?
DGT states they are compatible with its e-Boards and Smart Boards. The Centaur and the Pegasus, however, come with their own pieces.
Weighted or unweighted pieces?
Both versions work in the same way on the board. The weighted version feels heavier in the hand: 920 g compared with 680 g for the Timeless set, 1 kg compared with 760 g for the Royal set.
Which pieces should I choose for my board?
All electronic sets work with every board. For a matching look, DGT recommends the Timeless on walnut, the Royal on palisander (rosewood), and the dark Ebony or Czech Club sets on wenge.
