A design rooted in Czech chess history
The Czech Club revives a chess set from the Czech Republic designed by the sculptor Bohuslav Schnirch. DGT notes that these pieces were used in renowned tournaments and historic matches. Their distinctive feature is the mix of both colours on a single piece: each bishop carries a head in the opposing colour, a detail DGT highlights to help you recognise the pieces and find your bearings on the board. The brand presents it as a collector's chess set, bringing together history, usability and style.
A new electronic release for 2026
DGT is adding this chess set to its range of electronic pieces in 2026. The pieces are hand-shaped wood, tournament size, with felt bases. Placed on a DGT electronic chess board, they let you record your games, broadcast them and play online without leaving the board.
Which board to choose
DGT pairs the Czech Club with its wenge e-Board, which it matches to dark pieces; its own photos indeed show this set on wenge. Nothing restricts you to that, though: the USB and Bluetooth e-Boards in walnut or rosewood, the tournament e-Boards and the Smart Board all recognise it too.
Just one version, unweighted
DGT's catalogue does not offer the Czech Club in a weighted version: this 845 g set is the only model. It is sold without a board and does not record anything on its own. Owners of a Pegasus or a Centaur already have the pieces supplied with their board.
