Extra weight, same design
This weighted version follows the Modern Staunton to the letter: the same silhouette, the same wooden pieces shaped by hand, the same felt underneath. Only the weight changes. The unweighted version weighs 830 g for the complete set; this one is heavier. You feel it with every move: the piece weighs more between your fingers and settles onto its square with more substance. Both versions work on the same DGT boards, so the choice comes down to feel alone.
The Modern Staunton in brief
DGT designed this model to give the chess piece a modern standard. The design is registered by the brand. It combines clean edges with softened curves, in a silhouette that remains true to the Staunton, and DGT describes it as pleasant and familiar in hand. The knight, with its faceted head, is the most recognisable piece.
With a DGT electronic chess board
The board detects each piece and follows the game move by move. This lets you record your games, stream them live and play online while moving real pieces. This set sits on a USB or Bluetooth e-Board, a Smart Board or a tournament e-Board. On the walnut e-Board, DGT lists the Modern Staunton among the light pieces that suit it.
Good to know
The set is sold without a board: without a DGT e-Board or Smart Board, it transmits no moves. The Pegasus and the Centaur come with their own pieces. The exact weight of this version is not yet stated on this page: DGT publishes two different figures for a weighted Modern Staunton, and we are awaiting confirmation.
