Our Chess Pieces by Material and Style
Fine wood, precious metal, painted resin: find the pieces that suit you
Choosing your pieces by material
Fine Wood
Wooden chess pieces remain the reference choice: ebony, rosewood, boxwood, sheesham. Warm to the touch, naturally weighted, quiet to play with. For the purist as much as the club player.
Fine woodMetal & Bronze
Metal pieces, solid bronze or gilded brass, offer a remarkable weight and a spectacular shine. The luxury chess set par excellence.
See metal piecesPainted Resin
Hand-painted resin allows for exceptional detail: sculpted faces, chiselled armour, chess figurines of striking realism.
Painted resinHistorical & Themed
From medieval knights to Roman legions, our themed sets tell a story through original chess pieces, painted and sculpted.
Themed setsHow to choose your chess pieces?
Whether you're looking to replace a worn set, complete a chess board bought separately, or treat yourself to a collector's set, choosing your chess pieces comes down to three essential criteria: king height, material and style.
♔ King height
This is the reference measurement. A king of 75-85 mm is suitable for family use or a child. From 90 to 98 mm is the club standard. Beyond 98 mm, you enter FIDE competition and collector dimensions. For an existing chess board, apply the rule: king base + 25% = minimum square size.
⚖ Weight and weighting
Well-weighted pieces (lead or steel in the base) ensure stability on the board and a satisfying feel. Staunton pieces in wood are naturally lighter, whereas metal and bronze offer a dense weight and unmatched grip on the board.
🎨 Staunton style
The Staunton style has been the world standard since 1849, adopted by FIDE for all official tournaments. Each piece is instantly recognisable: the king by its cross, the queen by her crown, the knight by its sculpted horse's head. Our Staunton pieces in fine wood faithfully reproduce this timeless design.
🎁 The occasion
For a gift to a chess enthusiast, pieces in metal or gilded brass make a lasting impression. For a regular player, solid wood is unbeatable. For a child or beginner, a complete set (pieces + board) under €200 is more practical.
Expert tip: If you already own a chess board and wish to buy chess pieces separately, first measure the size of your squares. The pieces should occupy around 75% of the square for a harmonious look and comfortable play.
