Board, pieces, cables and clock, all together
A DGT Smart Board is of little use without electronic chessmen, and it needs a set of cables to talk to your computer. This bundle brings everything together, clock included: the Smart Board with coordinates, the weighted plastic chess set that DGT offers as an affordable solution for this board, the cable set designed for home use, and the DGT 3000, the clock that DGT recommends for its electronic chess boards.
Who does what
- The Smart Board, made of ABS plastic with a walnut-effect surface, detects pieces just like DGT's wooden e-Boards and stores around 500 moves in memory.
- The plastic chessmen, tournament size, are weighted with felt bases.
- The cable set connects the board to your computer, includes the clock cable, and comes with the Fritz software.
- The DGT 3000, FIDE-approved, offers 24 pre-programmed time controls and 5 custom settings.
The clock connected to the board
Linked to the Smart Board via the board-to-clock cable, the DGT 3000 displays moves and times as you play against a program or an online opponent, so your eyes stay on the board. Unplugged, it becomes a standard tournament clock for all your games, and DGT also recommends it for go, draughts, shogi and Scrabble.
On the computer side
Fritz, included, lets you play against the machine and analyse your games; PlayChess.com hosts your online games. LiveChess, DGT's free software, records and broadcasts your games live on Windows, Mac and Linux. Moves stored by the board can be retrieved in PGN format.
Good to know before you order
The four items arrive together, for 10% less than buying them separately. The board surface is printed, not wood. The cable set is designed for a single Smart Board: connecting several boards for a tournament requires DGT's connection kits. Finally, avoid placing the board on a metal table, as this can affect detection.
