The DGT USB e-Board in rosewood and the Royal electronic piece set in a single package: the pairing DGT recommends for this wood, ready to connect to your computer.
At DGT, an e-Board is sold without pieces, and electronic pieces record nothing without a board. This set settles the question of choice. On the page for its rosewood e-Board, DGT recommends pieces with warm red tones and cites the Royal; on the Royal's page, the brand pairs its brown hues with walnut and rosewood. The two items therefore correspond, and the board recognises each piece as soon as it is placed.
On Windows, the included Fritz software lets you play against the machine, train and review your games; with Fritz and the DGT drivers installed, you can also take on players on PlayChess.com by moving real pieces. On Mac and Linux, DGT's LiveChess software records your games and broadcasts them live. The DGT Pi, sold separately, connects to the board and replaces the computer.
Fritz and ChessBase are not supported on Mac. The iPad and iPhone are not supported either, and DGT offers no driver or app for Android. The cable between the computer and the board must not exceed 5 metres. This USB board is designed for the home player: to connect several chess boards at a tournament, DGT recommends other models. The DGT 2500 cannot be connected to an e-Board; the DGT 3000 can.

A board that is too small can hamper moves and make the set look cluttered. Conversely, a board that is too large can break the harmony of the whole. The right size brings both playing comfort and elegance.

I'm not a big fan of buying this kind of product online, I like to see it before buying. But honestly nowadays it's become almost impossible to find a nice traditional chess set in shops. So I ordered a wooden model online and I'm really pleased with my purchase. The set is very pretty, the pieces are beautiful and it looks great in the living room. We play regularly with my husband and the rest of the time it's almost like decoration. The only small complaint I could make is that there isn't a huge choice of storage boxes when you have pieces that aren't Staunton. Otherwise nothing to say, very satisfied.

I ordered a complete chess set and unfortunately the black king arrived broken, despite the parcel being very well packaged. I sent an email to customer service with a photo of the broken piece. They replied quickly and sent me a new king free of charge. The new piece arrived a few days later, very well protected and this time no issues at all. It can happen that a piece breaks during transport, even when well packaged. What matters most is the seller's reaction when there's a problem.
