The DGT electronic board in wengé and the Ebony set, black pieces in ebony and white in boxwood, delivered together: a complete electronic chess set in dark tones, ready to connect to your computer.
DGT makes the connection in both directions: the page for its wengé USB e-Board lists the Ebony set among the dark pieces to pair with it, and the page for the Ebony set presents it as the complement to its wengé board. This bundle follows that advice. The board, in a dark wood, comes with black pieces in ebony and white pieces in boxwood, in a pale honey tone. You have nothing to match yourself.
Connected to a computer running Windows, the chess board replaces the mouse: you play against Fritz, analyse and replay your games by moving real pieces. Once Fritz and the DGT drivers are installed, you can also play online on PlayChess.com. On Mac or Linux, DGT's LiveChess software records your games and broadcasts them live. The DGT Pi, the brand's chess computer, also connects to the board and means you do not need a computer at all.
Both items arrive in the same parcel, and the bundle costs 10% less than the board and the set ordered separately. Fritz and ChessBase are not supported on Mac. DGT supports neither the iPad nor the iPhone, and offers no driver or app for Android. The board is designed for playing at home: to link several boards for a tournament, DGT points towards other models. If you also want the DGT 3000 clock, a bundle including it is available.
USB e-Board instruction manual, with the French section (PDF)
A computer, or the DGT Pi chess computer. The board, pieces, cables and Fritz software are all included in the parcel.
Because DGT pairs them together: the page for the wengé board lists the Ebony set among the dark pieces that suit it, and the set's page describes it as designed to complement wengé.
No, this is the standard version, at 730 g. DGT also makes a weighted Ebony set, at 985 g, sold separately.
No. The cable to connect a DGT 3000 is supplied with the board, and a bundle including the clock is also available.
On Mac, yes, with LiveChess; Fritz and ChessBase are not supported there. DGT supports neither the iPad nor the iPhone, and provides no driver or app for Android.
2 years for the board and 2 years for the pieces.
A beautiful chess set rests on a simple balance: pieces well proportioned to the size of the squares. To choose a harmonious board, the most reliable guide is the diameter of the king's base.
Key guideline: ideally, the king's base takes up about 75% of the square.
| King height | King base diameter | Square size |
|---|---|---|
| 7,3 to 7,6 cm | 3,8 cm | 4,7 to 5,1 cm |
| 9,5 to 9,8 cm | 4,4 cm | 5,7 to 6 cm |
| 10,1 cm | 4,1 to 4,7 cm | 6 cm |
| 11,2 cm | 5 cm | 6,3 cm |
| 12,7 cm and above | 4,4 cm | 6,3 to 7 cm |
| King base diameter | Square size |
|---|---|
| 2 to 2,4 cm | 2,8 to 3,5 cm |
| 2,5 to 2,9 cm | 3,5 to 4 cm |
| 3 to 3,4 cm | 4,3 to 5 cm |
| 3,5 to 3,9 cm | 4,8 to 6,2 cm |
| 4 to 4,5 cm | 6 to 8 cm |
A board that is too small can hamper moves and make the set look cluttered. Conversely, a board that is too large can break the harmony of the whole. The right size brings both playing comfort and elegance.

I'm not a big fan of buying this kind of product online, I like to see it before buying. But honestly nowadays it's become almost impossible to find a nice traditional chess set in shops. So I ordered a wooden model online and I'm really pleased with my purchase. The set is very pretty, the pieces are beautiful and it looks great in the living room. We play regularly with my husband and the rest of the time it's almost like decoration. The only small complaint I could make is that there isn't a huge choice of storage boxes when you have pieces that aren't Staunton. Otherwise nothing to say, very satisfied.
Product matches the photo, no nasty surprises, well protected and sent on time. Thank you.
Merci.
I ordered a complete chess set and unfortunately the black king arrived broken, despite the parcel being very well packaged. I sent an email to customer service with a photo of the broken piece. They replied quickly and sent me a new king free of charge. The new piece arrived a few days later, very well protected and this time no issues at all. It can happen that a piece breaks during transport, even when well packaged. What matters most is the seller's reaction when there's a problem. And honestly, nothing to fault, it was simple and quick. Very satisfied with the after-sales service from Le Palais des Échecs.
Lots (too many... ? ^-'^) of models, I had a hard time making my choice but by contacting them by email I got several personalised suggestions that really helped a lot. So overall a positive review of the service from Le Palais des Echecs. One small downside, a payment in instalments option would be welcome. Kind regards.
✓ Avis VérifiésBeaucoup (trop... ? Bien cordialement.

I ordered a very large folding chess set on the gladiator theme in mid-August, the figures are well made and what's handy is that you can store them inside the board which folds up.
