What this kit is for
It connects the first board of a tournament set-up to the computer and to the power supply. DGT states that it is required to connect the first of each series of 12 tournament boards. The Tournament e-Board manual also requires it for individual use: recording your games, playing against a computer or against opponents online. It is sufficient for all of this, except for adding the board to a chain of several boards.
Contents still to be confirmed
DGT's documents do not quite agree: the page lists seven cables but only names six, and the manual adds LiveChess documentation. This listing only includes the items named consistently across the page, the manual and the FAQ.
Boards concerned
The same hardware serves both wooden tournament e-Boards and plastic Smart Boards. Since January 2020, all tournament boards have had a USB-C connection, and DGT no longer makes electronic boards with a serial port.
Several boards
Each additional board is connected using the additional kit. At the 13th board, then the 25th and the 37th, the first board kit is needed again. When a clock is connected, the LiveChess software also records the time taken for each move.
A word of caution
The mains adapter must not be replaced with a universal adapter: DGT warns that incorrect voltage polarity destroys the boards beyond repair.
