These superb chess pieces are offered to you by the National Museum of Scotland. They have been reproduced from laser scans of the original pieces, which are kept and cared for by the museum.
The Lewis chessmen have become an iconic legend and remain one of the most celebrated and original chess piece designs.
They were found by chance in 1831, near the sea on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The original pieces remain in the United Kingdom, where they can be admired by the public.
The result is a magnificent reproduction of the Isle of Lewis chess pieces, beautifully showcased on a superb lacquered solid wood chess board.

Choosing the right board size
A beautiful chess set rests on a simple balance: pieces well proportioned to the size of the squares. To choose a harmonious board, the most reliable guide is the diameter of the king's base.
Key guideline: ideally, the king's base takes up about 75% of the square.
