A collector’s set of chess pieces, created by expert artists from the art schools of Ortisei and Selva Gardena.

Hand-carved with bevelled chisels, carving knives and mallets, guided by sensitive, careful hands that give shape and life to the wood.
Wood from the alpine forests is best suited to carving. The raw timber is cut, sawn into planks and then reduced to small blocks matching the size of the sculpture to be made.

The expert craftsman uses a pantograph to turn the wooden blocks into rough sculpted shapes. These are then worked entirely by hand, down to the smallest detail.

The final stage of a wood sculpture is decoration.
The sculptures are burnished and wax-polished entirely by hand, with patience and meticulous care.
The colours used vary from one sculpture to the next: each one is unique.
