A Staunton redesigned by DGT
With the Modern Staunton, DGT set out to establish a modern standard for chess pieces. The design, registered by the manufacturer, combines crisp edges with gentle curves, while keeping the familiar feel that players accustomed to the Staunton expect. DGT intends it for play both at home and in the club.
Tournament size, weighted
The pieces are tournament-sized, with a king height of 9.5 cm. They are weighted: the complete set weighs 1.31 kg. The base of each piece is fitted with felt. As with all DGT sets, a second queen is supplied in each colour for promotions. The set is delivered in a DGT gift box.
Which chess board to use them on
DGT pairs this set with its non-electronic walnut chess board, sold separately in the shop. This is the combination the manufacturer shows and recommends; the board is supplied without pieces, and this set is supplied without a board.
Electronic or not: check the listing
The same design is also available as DGT electronic pieces, sold on other listings in the shop, in both standard and weighted versions. If you play on a DGT e-Board or Smart Board and want your moves recorded, those are the ones you need: DGT states that its electronic chess boards are designed to be used with its electronic pieces. This wooden set is intended for a classic chess board.
